Money Saving Tips

You can never have too many tips when it comes to saving money! I came across a few more tips and thought I would share...

Get creative in your shopping - those convenient single serving sizes are great, but have you ever paid attention to how much more you are paying for them over buying a large amount and sorting them yourself? Example...cottage cheese or frozen vegetables...these single serving sizes are great, but if you were to purchase a large container of cottage cheese or a large bag of frozen vegetables and divided it up into small containers at home, you would save money. Scoop out the amount of vegetables you want and put them in smaller Ziploc bags...then when you want a serving of frozen vegetables, you just need to fix the small bag...just as convenient, but lots cheaper...

Create your own - Do you like trail mix? Raisin Bran? Why not make your own. Buying the items separate and mixing them yourself, not only might save you money, but you can make it the way you want it. Never enough raisins in your Raisin Bran? Then buy store brand bran cereal and a box of raisins and mix them together...then you are in control of the amount of raisins you put in...Do you like some things in the ready made trail mix, but end up throwing some of the things away because you don't like them? Then here's your chance to pick what you like and put only those items in the mix.

Don't toss those leftovers - Add to them and make a whole other meal. Left over chicken? Why not cut it up, add some mac & cheese, corn and taco seasoning…put in a casserole dish, heat up and serve with nachos…Left over vegetable soup? Add a can of cream of mushroom soup to the vegetable soup, add some frozen meatballs, pour into a casserole, sprinkle with cheese and now you have a casserole dish and maybe even a new family favorite. Try some of your favorites with a twist. Instead of using hamburger, try chicken or sausage.
