We all know how expensive hair care, skin care and body care products are, but what if I told you there are items in your home that will take care of your hair, skin and body? Honest...and for a lot cheaper then store bought products...
Hair care:
Don't buy an expensive hot oil treatment for your hair...instead look in your cabinet for olive oil...heat 1/2 cup of oil (don't boil)...then pour it over your hair. Work it in with your hands (extra bonus...your hands will get softened in the process)...put a shower cap on for 45 minutes. Then shampoo & condition as usual. Be careful the tub floor might be a little slippery.
For a simple home treatment for dandruff and itchy scalp, apply full strength apple cider vinegar to the scalp, rub in, put a shower cap on and leave on for a half hour to an hour before washing your hair. May need to do this a few times depending on how dry the scalp is.
Remove build up on your hair - A good amount to make for long hair is 1/2 tablespoon of vinegar to 1 cup of water. After shampooing apply the vinegar rinse. Now you have a few choices. You may rinse it all out if you want, or leave the rinse on your hair. I rinse a little--one quick spray of water. Leaving the vinegar rinse on your hair helps prevent tangles in long hair. Since the vinegar restores natural pH it also helps prevent an itchy scalp. As your hair is drying you will smell vinegar, but once your hair dries, no smell. I was skeptical at first--but this really works!
Skin Care:
Facial Toner - Mix 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar with 3/4 cups witch hazel for a gentle toner suitable for all skin types. Pour mixture into a container with a lid. Using a cotton ball, apply mixture to face.
Facial Mask - Apply honey directly to your face. Leave on for 15 to 30 minutes. Rinse with warm water. Honey has antibacterial properties that will help your skin. **Use honey with caution if you are allergic to pollen or bee stings.
Body Care:
Body Scrub: Mix a bit of brown sugar, baby oil, a couple of drops of Vitamin E (either buy oil in the bottle or break open a capsule or two). Combine all the ingredients until they make a paste. Apply on moist skin and rinse off with warm water.
So the next time you want to have a spa day...look inside your kitchen cabinets, save some money and do it yourself...
